Who we are

Nomina Naturæ is a spaced repetition app for memorising species names from your iNaturalist observations. It is available at nominanaturae.com.

The app is operated by Bethany Kidd, who is the data controller responsible for your personal data. You can get in touch via the feedback form in Settings at nominanaturae.com.

By default — we collect nothing

Everything stays on your device. Your iNaturalist username and quiz progress are stored locally in your browser only. We never see them.

If you enable cloud sync

You can optionally sign in with your email address to back up your progress and sync across devices. If you do, we store:

Your email address — used solely to identify your account and send login links.
Your quiz progress — records of which species you've studied, how well you know each one, and when they're next due for review.

Cloud sync is entirely optional. The app works fully without it.

How long we keep it

Local data stays in your browser until you use Reset at the bottom of your Progress page, or clear your browser data.

You can delete your synced quiz progress at any time using the Delete my cloud data button in Settings. To also remove your email address from our records, request deletion via the feedback form in Settings at nominanaturae.com. We do not proactively delete cloud data.

Your rights

Under GDPR you have the right to access, correct, or delete your data. The Delete my cloud data button in Settings removes your synced quiz progress. To delete your email address, or to access or correct your data, contact us via the feedback form in Settings.

Third parties

Supabase (supabase.com) — used to store cloud sync data.
iNaturalist — their public API is used to load your observations. No data is sent to iNaturalist by this app.
Formspree — used to process feedback messages submitted via Settings.
